We're starting this exciting series of blogs because we have a profound appreciation for some of the underrated tracks from the diverse AIC Records library. With an impressive collection of over 200 remastered songs to choose from, which date back as far as 2009, there is an abundance of hidden gems waiting to be rediscovered and celebrated. This extensive library not only showcases a variety of musical styles and genres but also reflects the evolution of the artists involved over the years. The vast array of tracks provides us with the perfect opportunity to dive deep into the music that may not have received the recognition it truly deserves.
To kick off this series, we are thrilled to highlight a classic from Cylent Beatz, a group that has made significant contributions to the AIC Records lineup. We will be focusing on their first release from The Colour of Musik EP. Champagne, which was originally launched in 2009, with the full EP following shortly thereafter in early 2010. This particular song encapsulates the unique sound and innovative spirit of the group, featuring the remarkable talents of band members C-Jay, Big Daddy Bones, Eazy D, and Daryl Evans. Each member brings their distinct flair to the track, creating a harmonious blend of rhythms and melodies that resonate with listeners. Through this exploration, we hope to shed light on why this track, along with others in the AIC Records collection, deserves a place in the spotlight.
The song was originally recorded and produced by Daryl Evans in his first home studio back in 2009. Speaking with Daryl, he reminisced about the experience, saying, "This song was recorded in my Nan's house; it was my first proper set up. Well, I say proper, we made a booth out of four mattresses and a bookshelf. We stacked them up into a cube shape we could walk in and out of, and put a microphone in the middle. Remarkably, the recordings have lasted the test of time, and with the remasters recently taking place, they sound great. It's not our best song by far, but it is the beginning of an amazing era we had creating and releasing music, and because of that, it holds a special place in my heart for me".
This innovative approach to creating a recording space showcases Daryl's resourcefulness and creativity, as he transformed a simple living environment into a makeshift studio that would become the birthplace of a significant piece of his musical journey. As Daryl shared his story, it became evident that this creative time holds a special place in his heart, not just because of the unique circumstances of its creation, but also due to the emotional connections tied to the location and the people involved. Daryl's determination to pursue his passion for music in such an unconventional setting speaks volumes about his dedication and love for his craft.
This song is special because it encapsulates a pivotal moment in Cylent Beatz history, marking the beginning of their journey as artists. The remastering process that has taken place recently serves to enhance the original recordings, allowing the song to reach new audiences while preserving the integrity of its initial sound. This balancing act between nostalgia and modern production techniques illustrates the timeless quality of the music, making it relevant even years after its initial release.
